Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add-ins and Swirl

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup turkey bacon cooked and crumbled, optional

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk for icing

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.

Mixing

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk 1 cup milk, ½ cup melted unsalted butter, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula or whisk just until combined — don’t overmix to keep the cake tender.
  • Fold in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.

Cinnamon Swirl

  • In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon with ½ cup brown sugar to create the signature cinnamon roll flavor.
  • Pour half of the batter into your prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and cinnamon mixture. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter, creating beautiful cinnamon roll swirls.
  • If you want that sweet and savory kick, sprinkle ¼ cup cooked and crumbled turkey bacon evenly over the top (optional).

Baking and Glazing

  • Place the cake in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  • While the cake cools slightly, whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cake.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before cutting. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor.

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Electric mixer
  • Cooling rack

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake light and fluffy.
  • Swirling the cinnamon and brown sugar mixture is key to achieving the signature cinnamon roll flavor and look.
  • The optional turkey bacon should be fully cooked and crumbled to avoid sogginess.
  • You can freeze individual slices wrapped tightly for up to 3 months; thaw and warm before serving.
  • For dairy-free or gluten-free options, substitute ingredients as suggested in the recipe.
