Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken thighs boneless and skinless, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup orange juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • sesame seeds for garnish
  • green onions sliced for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the freshly squeezed orange juice, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Set aside.

Mix the Cornstarch Slurry

  • In another small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water until smooth. This slurry will thicken your sauce later.

Cook the Chicken

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Season the bite-sized chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Add them to the hot pan in a single layer and cook for about 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set aside.

Sauté the Broccoli

  • In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and slightly tender but still crisp.

Combine Sauce and Chicken

  • Return the chicken to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the orange sauce over and stir to coat evenly.

Thicken the Sauce

  • Give the cornstarch slurry a quick stir and pour it into the skillet. Cook and stir for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens, becomes glossy and sticky, clinging to the chicken and broccoli.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove from heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.

Equipment

  • Large non-stick skillet or wok
  • Mixing bowls
  • Sharp Knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Citrus juicer

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed orange juice for the best citrus flavor and avoid bitterness.
  • Do not overcook chicken thighs to keep them juicy and tender.
  • Stir-fry broccoli quickly to maintain a crisp texture and vibrant color.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently in a skillet.
  • Substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar for a different sweetener option.
