Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 ounces unsweetened applesauce (about 1/2 cup)
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (vegan)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This step is crucial to ensure that your brownies bake evenly and rise perfectly.
  • Step 2: Combine Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Step 3: Add Applesauce and Chocolate
Mix in the unsweetened applesauce and the melted chocolate. Stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  • Step 4: Sift in Dry Ingredients
Sift in the unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and all-purpose flour. Use a spatula to gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  • Step 5: Stir in Chocolate Chips
Fold in the vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Step 6: Bake
Pour the brownie batter into your prepared 8x8 inch baking pan, spreading it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
  • Step 7: Cool and Serve
Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
